MBTW celebrates launch of Fairmont's "Green Triangle"10/01/08 / TORONTODesigned by MBTW; The City of Toronto and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts welcomed the most recent beautification project to the City as the revitalized corner of University Avenue and Front Street was officially unveiled. As part of Fairmont Hotels & Resort’s 100th anniversary celebration in 2007, Fairmont partnered with the City of Toronto to revitalize this prominent location. With its corporate headquarters located in the downtown core and the Fairmont Royal York close by, the design exhibits Fairmont’s Canadian roots, its strong connection to Toronto’s railway heritage as well as its progressive environment commitments while providing a new public space for local workers and visitors. As part of the revitalization, a contest was held to find a name for this unique area. Children of colleagues at The Fairmont Royal York were invited to submit a name and the reasons for their choice with the winner submission “ The Green Triangle” reflecting Fairmont’s environmental initiatives. “ A wonderful new public space,” Mayor David Miller, City of Toronto “ A project that has both a social and environmental impact,” Brian Richardson – Fairmont Hotels & Resorts “ A space of great beauty and reflection,” Councillor Pam McConnell |
